School Houses

There are six Houses named after prominent figures in the Church's history.

The aims of the House System are to:

Create an atmosphere of loyalty and a sense of belonging to each other, the House and the School.

Create a sense of community spirit.

Encourage all students to participate in a wide range of inter-house activities and to encourage healthy rivalry.

Stimulate academic and extra-curricular achievement by amassing House points.

Encourage students to develop leadership skills as House representatives.

Each student is assigned to a House; this corresponds to their tutor group. Students new to the Sixth Form are allocated the House associated with their tutor group. The system provides a vertical structure (to complement the horizontal year groups), a focus for internal competition and offers further opportunities for students to display qualities of teamwork and leadership.  There are two House Captains from Year 13 and two Vice Captains from Year 12 who help organise and motivate members of each House.

House points are awarded throughout the year for a variety of events.  Students compete in  activities including sports, dance, drama, music, public speaking etc. Students will also be rewarded for their contribution to charity fund raising and as recognition of effort and achievement in their academic work. Any examples of “public spirit” – care for the environment, helpfulness to members of staff, assisting at extra – curricular functions etc. may also attract the reward of achievements which translate into House points.

Points will be collected each term and collated. Updates to running totals are displayed on the House notice boards and on Frog. Information about House events is provided during school assemblies. At the end of the academic year a celebration assembly takes place, where final performances and awards are shared with the whole school, this includes the presentation of the House Shield to the House with the most points.
