Facilities for Learning

High quality learning environment

The physical environment of the school is one that promotes an effective learning culture.  We have a high level of IT access, Wi-Fi throughout the school, laptops and iPads for student use.

Learning Resource Centre

Encompassing the library with over 8,000 titles, the LRC is where students can use laptops for personal study.  There are also iPads with many titles and textbooks available as e-books.  The LRC is a ‘silent’ study area that Sixth Form students use in their independent study periods.

The Bridge

This is at the centre of the school and is the hub of Sixth Form life.  It is a space that provides students with a ‘quiet’ study area with desktop computers, laptops and Wi-Fi for personal devices.  It is here that the Sixth Form office is located and once a week the entire year group gather for morning ‘briefing’ where news items are shared, student success is celebrated and timely information is disseminated.

This coffee shop and lunch facility is only for use by Sixth Form students and staff.  Students can use this to refuel their energy and share some social time with friends.

The school has widespread Wi-Fi access for the benefit of the students.  They simply log into this using their network username and password.  All students are encouraged to use this facility with their portable devices rather than use their mobile data allowance.

Biometric data

In line with many schools, JFK uses biometric fingerprint data to provide students with secure ease of access to Cashless  Payments in the canteen, Sixth Form Attendance Registration and LRC facilities.  The fingerprint data is stored in a unique format that can only be read by our systems.
